Looking to Buy or Sell Used Servers ??

You have servers to sell or at the very least dispose of.  They are taking up valuable space in your storage area and you are never going to need them again.  You also realize that with each passing week and month that the servers are depreciating in value.  What you need is a firm that will buy used IBM servers. And that type of firm is known as an IT asset disposition firm.

An IT asset disposition firm may advertise in various ways saying phrases such as we buy used servers, we buy used IBM servers, we buy laptops, we buy PCs, we buy phone systems, we buy networking gear and the list goes on and on.  Basically an IT asset disposition firm, otherwise known as an ITAD, specializes in the purchase and sale of used IT equipment.

When looking for an ITAD to buy used IBM servers it may seem to make sense to find a firm that says we buy used servers. And while that does make sense there are several more tips to consider when choosing an ITAD.

  1. Look for a firm that will put everything in writing.  If they won’t that is a red flag.  What you don’t want on moving day is for there to be surprise charges.
  2. Look for a firm that has experience with the manufacturer of the product you are buying or selling.  The more experience a firm has with that specific manufacturer the more accurate the quote will be.
  3. Look for a firm, and this really goes without saying, that you feel confident will come through for you; one that you feel comfortable with.  Go with your gut feeling – isn’t it always right?!
  4. Look for a firm that is concerned with the environment and is happy to discuss their recycling practices.  When the IT assets leave your hands, yes it’s true that ultimately it is no longer your responsibility.  But a step you can take to make sure things are handled properly is to discuss recycling on your first call.  By doing this you will know whether your equipment will be handled in the proper way once the assets are sold to the ITAD.

When you have to sell used IBM servers, don’t just look for any old company that will buy used IBM servers or one that says we buy servers. Look for one that will put the agreement in writing, one that is experienced, one that you feel confident with, and one that cares about the environment. By following these tips you should have a very smooth transaction.
